I have began to think about my own product and how I would like it to be. I think the best genre for my magazine to be would be a pop magazine aimed at young female teenagers as this is a target audience I understand and will therefore be able to cater to. I also think there is a lot more to do with this style as a lot of the products already existing have bright colours and lots of images, although I will have to decide whether or not to play to this convention.
In this market there is a lot of competition as it is a very popular style of magazine. The main competitors are Top of the Pops and We Love Pop however there are also pop style magazines which are aimed at older teenagers or even young adults such as Sugar and Bliss but Q, NME and Billboard also feature pop artists as well as other genres. This means there are a lot of different styles of pop magazines out there to look at and take ideas from.
