Audience Research - Face to Face

I held an interview with a girl who fits my target audience (female 11 year old from my school) to find out detailed information about what they look for in magazines. This form of audience research is difficult to consult as it features only a few peoples opinions, however it gains more detailed answers.

What features do you look for in a magazine?
I look for magazines which look pretty, with bright pink on the cover. I like it when my favourite bands are on the cover and when they have posters in the magazine and I look at the free gift on offer because I like the make up they do.

What are your favourite styles of stories to read within a magazine?
I like interviews with the celebrities but I don't like it to be too long. I like other stories too because I don't like to read the same type of thing over and over, like I like true stories and horoscopes and problem pages too.

What would your perfect front cover look like?
It would be bright and have my favourite colours on, and a big picture of the main band. I also like it when there are a lot of different stories on it and not just one because that looks boring. I like it when it has a stripe at the top or the bottom with free gifts and competitions or other stories on it too.

What makes the celebrity appealing to you?
I like celebrities when they look pretty and have clothes on that I want to wear. They look normal on most magazines and I like that because they look naturally pretty and like they would on an ordinary day.

Which of the following titles do you prefer?
I like Glitz because its pretty and makes me think of jewels and diamonds and it makes me think that only the best singers are going to be in the magazine. I like loud too though because it is a music magazine and it makes sense and that is how I like music. I don't like pop art because I don't really understand it, there isn't really art involved in a magazine.
