After a busy morning in front of the camera, she sits down with me to discuss her rise to fame and her new music. She climbs into the chair and brings her knees up to her chin and sighs cheerily: 'this is the first time I have sat down all morning!'. The busy new lifestyle doesn't seem to faze her however as she is as upbeat and delightful as ever.
Alexandra, congratulations on your number one single! How do you feel?
I am over the moon! I cannot believe it, I am honestly in shock! It is so amazing and so so surreal, like the song I wrote in my university music room is now playing on the radio all over the country.
How did you find inspiration to write the song?
It was written after a really bad break up. It was one of those bad times in my life and I just threw myself into my music to try an distract myself from how sad I felt. It was my release. It gave me something to focus on and motivated me to carry on and not get stuck in the past. And now I can share my experience with other people who listen to my music and I love that.
You have recently celebrated getting one million followers on twitter, is it exciting to know you have that many fans?
Again, it's so surreal! I can't believe that many people would be interested in the rubbish I come out with [laughs]. It really does make me feel like I have accomplished something and I feel it gives me a platform to speak about things I see as important issues, I really would like to use this to make a change for the better.
That is such a good way to see it, we look forward to seeing what you choose to do! Now we've heard that you have been spotted in the studio with none other than Chris Walker, is there a collaboration on the horizon?
You will have to wait and see. He is a very talented artist it would be a pleasure to work with him and he is such a nice guy! And I am currently recording my debut album so who knows.
We'll keep our fingers crossed then. What is it like adjusting to this new found popularity?
It is strange, I don't feel like I am any different yet every single aspect of my life has changed, it's a weird feeling. I am still getting used to people taking pictures of me and shouting my name, but I do love meeting fans when I am out. I always worry they think I am a bit boring because I am just so ordinary [laughs again].
What is the strangest thing a fan has said to you?
No one has said anything really strange that I can think of, which I am quite glad about! [takes a moment to think] I have been sent teddy bears but I don't think that's very strange it is actually really cute. Someone sent a card to my mums house which freaked me out a bit - how do you know where my mum lives?
We were excited to hear about your new partnership with River Island. How did you respond to the news?
I couldn't believe it. My manager phoned me and told me that they were interested in taking a few pictures of me with their clothes on for their new campaign and I was so shocked I needed to sit down. I am not a model at all it was so strange, my friends are all laughing at me they just can't imagine it.
Would you like to design your own range one day?
I'd absolutely love it, that's every girls dream isn't it? Especially for a company like River Island, I have shopped there all my life and I love the clothes they produce.
One last question - what sort of music can we expect from your debut album?
This album is very much pop music, although there are a few slower and more relaxed songs. I hope everyone will love it as much as I do, I have worked so hard to make it perfect. It should be ready to release in March, which I am sure will come around quickly. I hope it does anyway, I am so excited!
