Popular Fashion in Pop Magazines
I have looked at different pop magazines and how the editor chooses to dress the stars who appear within them. They often dress in a way which is too young for their age, probably to appeal to the target audience as they wear clothes which would appeal to young teenagers despite being often in their twenties. Some magazines appear to go down the dressed up route in which they wear dresses and look like they are going to an elaborate party, often sparkly and 'pretty' dresses. Some choose to dress their celebrities in more everyday clothes, maybe in an attempt to make them appear normal and relate-able and also so the magazine doesn't scare parents off buying it. Here are two examples of these extremes:

I have also looked at the hair and make up choices on pop magazines. It is often very understated and not anything too 'out there'. This is because they are trying to appeal to a mainstream audience and a young one too, and they want to see pictures of their favourite pop stars looking pretty, not necessarily ground breaking or artistic. The relaxed approached to make up could again also be to appeal to this young audience and to avoid promoting the 'self hating' culture magazines are often accused of giving children. Instead they opt to make the celebrities look normal and natural, which will appeal to the parents who are the ones buying the magazine.
