Types of Shots and Male Gaze Theory

Live Shot – band/singer preforming on stage
Advantages
-real shot of something that happened which will make people interested
-more personality
Disadvantages
-not guaranteed a good shot
-no control over outcome

Posed Shot – photo shoot / set up picture (can include props and mise-en-scene is important)
Advantages
-design it how you want
-guarantee of quality
Disadvantages
-can look forced
-time consuming and expensive
-lots of things to take with you

Impromptu Shot – not posed and no preforming
Advantages
-unexpected
Disadvantages
-no way to guarantee a good shot

Mise-en-scene - everything in the shot or scene
·      Lighting
·      Props and clothes (make up)
·      Body position
·      Facial expressions
·      Proxemics

Male gaze theory – Laura Mulvey
-Camera is a heterosexual male
-The camera can be accused of objectifying
-Some feminist theory states women only exist as a metonym (known only as an item, no identity). This is backed up by the male gaze theory
