Magazine Analysis - We Love Pop (Front Cover)

This magazine is clearly of the pop genre, and is trying to appeal to teenage girls which is clearly established with the use of bright colours, particularly the purple which is considered a 'girl' colour. The genre is clearly established by the use of Rihanna on the front page, as she is a well known pop star and is also very popular which will therefore appeal to the mass market and shows this is a mainstream publication. In the image, Rihanna has bright red hair which is different and stands out, and also comes across as fun loving which will appeal to readers who will probably look up to her. She is also dressed very appropriately in clothes that a typical early teen girl would wear and not a provocative outfit which she regularly wears as the actual audience this magazine has to appeal to is the teenagers parents who will really be buying it for their children, and will not want to give their children something which is inappropriate for their age. The picture of Rihanna is the main thing on the front page and the largest image and is therefore the thing your eye is drawn to, however the logo of the magazine overlaps with her picture which encourages the reader to look at this as well. The font is fun and they use a love heart instead of the word 'love' which is both more interesting to look at and also informal, which sets the tone for how the articles within the magazine will be written. The use of the love heart could also be seen as an emoticon, which will appeal to teenage girls who are stereotypically obsessed with texting and technology. There are small stories written down the side of the page but these do not have pictures. This shows these stories are not the main feature of the magazine however still focus on subjects the target audience will be interested in such as pop music and famous pop artists. By writing their names it will widen the audience this magazine appeals to as there is even more chance people will be interested in someone in the magazine. There are two smaller images of boy bands on the front cover which will again appeal to teenage girls who love these bands and want to read about them, and also because they are attracted to them, so the offer to see 'unseen pictures' will appeal to the target audience hugely.
