The colour pink is an obvious choice to appeal to young girls as this is a stereotypical female colour. Because of this, it connotes that the magazine is girly and feminine which is ideal for a magazine aimed at girls. A bright pink is fun and interesting to look at and will also attract attention however it will more than likely put of any boys from looking at the magazine in more detail and this should be taken into consideration. Pink is considered playful and pretty, which is what a pop magazine should really be aiming for.
Purple is again a very typical 'girl' colour and therefore is used on pop magazines a lot. It is maybe less girly than the colour pink. It is often considered luxurious and majestic, which would maybe heighten the quality of the magazine and how professional it appeared, as pink could be considered tacky. It is also said to appear sophisticated, which would make the magazine look higher quality however also may not appeal as much to my target audience.
Black is a very dark colour and is therefore not usually used on pop magazines and would therefore be breaking conventions. It is often believed to connote negative things however such as death and decay however it could also be used as a background to make bright colours stand out further, which could possibly appeal to my target audience.
Blue is generally not used when trying to appeal to girls as it is often related to boys things. However, blue is a fresh colour which is related to loyalty, wisdom and respect which is very positive and could provide my magazine with a clean and healthy feel to it.
